A hardy, palm-like plant with an unusual swollen trunk from which emerges a spray of narrow, strap-like leaves, resembling a pony-tail hairdo.  When grown outdoors this decorative plant will grow to two metres tall with leaves .  When grown indoors its size will be notably restricted.  Tolerates most soils.
