A small, sprawling, evergreen shrub, which in winter and spring bears a profusion of red, tubular flowers tipped with green or yellow.  The foliage is variable and can be heart-shaped, oval or lance-shaped.  Ideal for rockeries, seaside gardens and containers.  The flowers attract nectar eating birds.  Thrives in moist, well-drained soil in a sunny to partly shaded position.  Tolerates extended periods of dryness when established.  Grows well in coastal areas.  Prune after flowering to maintain compact growth.
